Roma Termini is the hub of Italy’s high-speed network: Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa and Italo trains run north to Florence, Bologna, Milan and Venice and south to Naples. The Leonardo Express links Termini with Fiumicino Airport, and regional trains reach Tivoli, the Castelli Romani, Ostia and Orvieto.
High-speed
Frecciarossa (Trenitalia) and Italo trains leave Termini, and some Tiburtina, for Florence, Bologna, Milan and Venice to the north, and Naples to the south.
The airport
The Leonardo Express runs non-stop between Fiumicino Airport and Termini (trenitalia.com). Ciampino is reached by bus or by train from Ciampino town.
Book high-speed trains on trenitalia.com or italotreno.com.
Day trips by train
Regional trains run to Tivoli, Frascati, Orvieto and, from the Porta San Paolo station, to Ostia Antica. Naples is about an hour or so by high-speed train: check the timetables on trenitalia.com or italotreno.com.
Our advice: validate regional tickets before you board, and check the timetable on the day.
