Rome’s grand hotels gather in a few famous places. At the top of the Spanish Steps the Hassler looks down over the city from the Piazza Trinità dei Monti, and the Hotel de la Ville stands a few doors along the Via Sistina. Down in the Tridente, the Hotel de Russie sits between the Piazza del Popolo and the Pincio, and the Bvlgari Hotel faces the Mausoleum of Augustus. Above the Via Veneto are the Hotel Eden and the Splendide Royal; by the Baths of Diocletian, the St. Regis and the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi. Out on Monte Mario, the Rome Cavalieri keeps a park of its own and La Pergola, the city’s only three-star restaurant.
The Spanish Steps and the Tridente
The Hotel Hassler Roma is at Piazza Trinità dei Monti 6, at the head of the Spanish Steps; its rooftop restaurant Imàgo holds One MICHELIN Star in the 2026 guide. The Hotel de la Ville, a Rocco Forte hotel, is at Via Sistina 69, and its sister the Hotel de Russie at Via del Babuino 9, by the Piazza del Popolo. The Bvlgari Hotel Roma faces the Mausoleum of Augustus from Piazza Augusto Imperatore 10, and ROMEO Roma, with interiors by Zaha Hadid’s studio, is at Via di Ripetta 246.

The Hotel Eden, Dorchester Collection, is at Via Ludovisi 49; its rooftop La Terrazza holds One MICHELIN Star. The Splendide Royal is at Via di Porta Pinciana 14, with Mirabelle on its upper floor. By the Piazza della Repubblica, the St. Regis Rome (Via Vittorio E. Orlando 3) and the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi (Piazza della Repubblica 47) face the fountain of the Naiads.
You don’t need a room: book lunch at Imàgo or a drink at the Stravinskij Bar.
The new palazzo hotels
The centre has a new generation of hotels in historic palazzi: Six Senses Rome on the Piazza di San Marcello, Orient Express La Minerva on the Piazza della Minerva behind the Pantheon, Corinthia Rome on the Piazza del Parlamento, The Rome EDITION near the Via Veneto, and Hotel Vilòn, Palazzo Ripetta and Palazzo Talìa among the boutique addresses.
Monte Mario
The Rome Cavalieri, a Waldorf Astoria hotel, stands in its own park on Monte Mario, at Via Alberto Cadlolo 101. La Pergola, on its top floor, is Rome’s only restaurant with Three MICHELIN Stars in the 2026 guide.
Our advice: for a first visit, stay between the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps and walk everywhere.
