About Naples and Pompeii: the back story

Naples is a short high-speed run south of Rome. UNESCO lists its historic centre (1995) and the archaeological areas of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata (1997). The finds from Pompeii fill the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN).

Getting there

By Frecciarossa or Italo from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale; book on trenitalia.com or italotreno.com.

Pompeii and Herculaneum

Pompeii (pompeiisites.org) and Herculaneum (ercolano.cultura.gov.it) are reached by local train from Naples. Book entry on their official sites.

Frecciarossa and Italo trains run from Termini to Napoli Centrale; check the timetables on their sites.

Naples

The National Archaeological Museum (museoarcheologiconapoli.it) holds the treasures of Pompeii.

Our advice: one day is enough for Pompeii; stay a night to see Naples as well.
